What are the different types of braces?

Braces are referred to as dental tools which are primarily used to set your teeth in alignment. There is a large majority of people suffering from problems such as overcrowding, unnecessary gaps, and crooked or uneven teeth. These result in problems such as overbite,
underbite and developing speech-related troubles. This is where braces come in and save the day. Let’s look at the different types of braces.

Metal Braces-
Metal braces are widely used and have been around for a long time. Tiny metal brackets are attached to the teeth and a wire is attached to the fixed bracket. An elastic band is used which in turn exerts pressure which helps the teeth position themselves in alignment.
Moreso, braces needn’t be boring! These days, one can opt the colourful ones. The elastic bands come in different colours and it makes all the difference.

Ceramic braces-
Pretty similar to metal bracelets, the ceramic braces work with a similar principle. The only difference is that the metal brackets get replaced with ceramic ones (closer to your teeth’ colour) with a transparent/ clear coloured wire. They are less noticeable and are a bit costlier than metal braces.

Self-ligating braces
Self-ligating braces come in metal and ceramic braces. They work similarly to the traditional braces. The only difference here is that instead of elastic bands being used, doors or clips are used to keep the wire in place. These doors are adjusted to pull the teeth in the desired direction.

Lingual Braces-
Lingual braces are very similar to the traditional braces but are used in specific cases. Unlike traditional braces, the brackets and wire are installed at the back of the teeth facing the tongue. Therefore, these are not visible at all. It is an orthodontic method that serves
cosmetic and practical benefits when compared to traditional braces.

Clear Aligners-
Aligners are clear plastic trays that go onto your teeth. They do the work of traditional braces but are used for less complex problems such as overbite, or just reducing gaps in one’s teeth. These trays are removable and easy to manage.
